Well I can remember a time in skinland where skinning and arts sites were few & far between but now we seem to have an abundance of them and here is a new one popping up yet again! though the majority are owned and run by males, this one happens to be owned by a female and now lets get to meet her.
Tek: Hello Pearldrop thanks so much for doing the interview, I know you're busy with putting your new site up and all =)
Pearldrop: Thank you, :)
Tek: Lets get the usual out of the way first shall we? Would you share some personal stuff about yourself with us?
Pearldrop: Well, my personal stuff? LOL Ok, My name is Ruby A., I currently live in Lawrenceville, Georgia, near Atlanta, My home town is Austin Texas.
Tek: Okay lets get to it, so what exactly brought you into the skinning community? did a friend introduce you to it, or were you just browsing around and tripped and fell into the skinning community accident?
Pearldrop: Yes, you can say I tripped and fell into a skinning site… OUCH! What a big fall… LOL.
Tek: What kind of graphics do you yourself create? Do you skin or do wallpapers or both?
Pearldrop: I do both, ICQ skins and WP :)
Tek: And your favorite graphic apps to do your images and web icons/graphics issss? and why?
Pearldrop: I use a lot of PSP 8, Eyecandy 4000, Xenofex, and sometimes PS 7. One thing PSP 8 is my favorite, it just much easier, for me.
Tek: What was the very first site you came onto first, and which sites do you frequent and like to hang out at most?
Pearldrop: I fell in Skinbase (owned by gRave) was amazed and couldn't pick myself up from the floor… LOL, seeing artworks created by very talented artists. I also met many wonderful friends… then I saw there were many more links to other skinning sites, and I fell again at Artuproar LOL Artuproar is where I hang out, everyday, meeting new people, I must say it's a fun friendly site to on… Chaz is the owner of the site, what a good friend. :)
Tek: Pretty rare speaking to females that have their very own skinning sites (though I just hooked up with Xerraire not too long ago for an interview) but what exactly made you decide to create and design your very own skinning site, when there seems to be tons around now days and mostly by men?
Pearldrop: Hmmm… Why not have another Skin/Art site? Well too many skin sites are run by men. Why not one run by a female… LOL… guess it makes the guys run… LOL The Skin Shack has been around for a long while… I just wanted to upgrade and extend it. Always wanted a friendly open site for members of all ages. It has always been my ambition, another portal for artist to explore and exhibit their work…
Tek: Well the more the merrier plus I think the people are enjoying having a bigger variety of skinning sites to choose from, which was not always the case in the past. So how long have you been working to put this together now?
Pearldrop: I have been working on it for 8 months now, staying up many late nights, long days, and still have lots to do.
Tek: Guess most people will only get out of it what they put into it right? so if that is true you should have a big reward of satisfaction waiting for you… hehe Would you share some information about the kinds of features you have implemented on your skinning/art site?
Pearldrop: All the usual community site type features plus a few extra of our own we are hoping to implement :)
Tek: and what kinds of sections do you have?
Pearldrop: Again with the sections… we are hoping to cover all aspects of artwork and are open to suggestions. There is a suggestion forum for members to post ideas, questions etc. an open source for members to tell us what they would like to see.
Tek: Has this been a fun experience for you getting this far? learning new things and dealing with all the ups and downs of putting it together? or has it been more work than play?
Pearldrop: Yes, it has been a fun experience. It's been more play then work… LOL… Ok… ok… it's been both… hehe
Tek: And what do you think will make your site stand out different from all the others? do you think it will be a specific feature, the crowd, the design or what?
Pearldrop: I honestly don't think that it will be any specific feature or design… it will be the members and the admins, the people who will make this site work. I'm very fortunate enough to have the people I asked to be admins to accept the challenge… Peanut, Chichigirl46, LadyD, Dark Euridice, Doreen and Xerraire have served this community and the wealth of experience they will bring with them. Our aim is to etablish a friendly homely site for all ages to enjoy.
Tek: Well speaking on my own behalf, I always take it as an honor to be asked and a privledge to serve, so "Thank you" =) now, what about the dreaded cost factor of keeping such a site going? Have you considered how you will handle this if it happens to grow into a big monster on you over time?
Pearldrop: Yes, I have. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. ;)
Tek:Are you just playing this by ear, or do you have specific goals and ambitions for artnskins.com lined up? such as adding new features as you go along etc?
Pearldrop: My hope is to create an art site for the people, by the people. Original features is our goal. To implement ideas and needs of our members to the best of our ability. Simply another site to visit and enjoy. :)
Tek: Any advice you would like to give to any other females wishing to start their very own site?
Pearldrop: Well, if you have a goal… go for it ladies! :)
Tek: And since me is running behind schedule on getting this wrapped up to coincide with your grand opening which is today! (and I did not know it) OMG I'm a sucky admin! hehe Let's call this a wrap.
And now what are you people still doing here reading this? get on over to Artnskins and pay Pearl a visit on her new site she just put together for you to enjoy! =)
Thanks again Pearl for your time!
